Interview Tips

Presentation
It is important to present yourself well in an interview, not only by displaying a neat and tidy appearance which includes dressing appropriately, but also by demonstrating that you have the right attitude.

Sell yourself
Be confident and let the prospective employer know exactly what you are capable of and the strengths you possess. It is also good to know your development areas, what are the areas you would like improve on?  Tell him or her why you are the right person for the job. What knowledge, skills or experience can you bring to the company?

Research your perspective employer
Find out a little bit about the company you are seeking employment with. What do they do? How long have they been around? What makes them different? The Internet is a wonderful tool!

Questions likely to be asked

Employers often ask questions to find out how you cope with certain situations. They appreciate when you can give examples from previous positions. Before the interview, think about how you have dealt with certain situations in the past. Questions will vary depending on the position applied for, but may include:

  • Give me an example of when you have had to deal with a difficult customer.  What was the problem and how did you manage the situation?
  • Give me an example of when you have had to juggle quite a few things at once?  What were they, what did you do, and what was the outcome?
  • Where do you want to be in 5yrs time / what is your career goal?
